Embracing Innovative eLearning Technologies
Aligning instructional design and emerging technologies with learner capabilities and needs
2-4 June 2008, Sydney, Australia
Workforce training is widely recognised as an important force driving business performance. In recent years more and more organisations have shown interest in making the shift from instructor-led to electronic learning, because of its time and cost efficiency and flexible way of getting knowledge across to the targeted people.
Recent trends have shown some exiting developments in eLearning technology with the introduction and development of social networking tools, mLearning technology and the adoption of virtual worlds in training programs.
However, there is a still lack of knowledge about the capabilities of these new eLearning technologies. Organisations also face numerous pitfalls in the instructional design stage and implementation of eLearning solutions and content. Accessible systems that have educative and engaging content for the learner are difficult to find and develop. Due to lack of insight into the possibilities and knowledge of implementation war-stories, many organisations are therefore weary to adopt eLearning technologies.
This conference focuses on the range of eLearning tools and technologies available and will allow you to hear practical case studies and learn from professionals on the following areas:
- Overcoming objections to adopting eLearning technologies
- Deploying an instructional design approach in developing eLearning systems and content
- Designing and implementing user-centred, engaging and accessible eLearning solutions
- Getting people to use the technology
- Using Web 2.0, mLearning, podcasting and virtual world technologies for learning and development
- Benchmarking your organisation's eLearning efforts against other organisations

User-centric Web 2.0
Creating business value from collaborative technologies and social media
11-13 June 2008, Sydney, Australia
Exciting things are happening as the web rapidly evolves and social networking tools, mediums and websites develop. The web has transformed itself from a fixed platform that simply hosts web pages, to a vibrant interactive environment that delivers up to date content via RSS feeds, podcasts, wikis, blogs, mashups, videocasts, webinars, and social networks. These collaborative tools are allowing organisations to contribute and share information in ways that were previously unknown and unavailable to organisations.
However, many organisations are still opposing the 2.0 hype due to internal resistance from management and IT. They are falling behind and failing to capitalise on the positive business model changes in client engagement, internal communication, marketing, and core enterprise applications. It is therefore essential to overcome this resistance and promote an understanding of the real and practical benefits of Web 2.0 so that it is embraced within business to reflect positively on organisational culture, ROI and business value.
The purpose of this conference is to put Web 2.0 into context and understand its potential within the Australian corporate business environment. The implications of Web 2.0 integration will be discussed and user-centric rather than technology-centric approaches to deploying Web 2.0 will be outlined.
By hearing case studies that detail emerging business and technological developments that utilise Web 2.0 as a platform, and business models that have worked and are still working within organisations, you will learn how to:
- Sell collaboration to management
- Embrace social networking sites such as Facebook
- Build an online community: CoPs and virtual teams
- Calculate business value from blogs and wikis
- Effectively use social bookmarking through sites such as del.icio.us
- Integrate real-time technologies into the business
- Calculate business ROI on Web 2.0

The Internal Consultant masterclass
Working with the business to ensure effective service delivery
28-29 August 2008, Brisbane, Australia
Speaker: Graeme Simsion, Simsion & Associates
This masterclass is for IT and business people who provide services to clients within their own organisation.
Most of these 'internal consultants' have learned - sometimes the hard way - that there is more to the job than
having the right answer or delivering a technically good product.
Success just as often depends on "soft skills": setting and managing expectations, negotiating with the client,
dealing with difficult people. Yet most professionals give far less attention to these consulting skills than they give to their technical expertise.
This masterclass fills that critical gap.
Developed and facilitated by a seasoned consultant and consulting manager, the masterclass packs a wealth of practical
advice, frameworks and tips into a highly interactive two-day program. It uses a combination of formal material, stories,
lectures, group exercises and case studies to cover the key challenges of consulting.
The emphasis throughout is on practical techniques to deal with the issues that real consultants face in their day-to-day work.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own stories and problems for discussion.
Expect to leave this masterclass with ideas and techniques that you will use throughout your professional life.
Speaker - Graeme Simsion, Simsion & Associates
Graeme Simsion has over twenty five years experience as a consultant and CEO of a successful consultancy.
